General Information

General Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet certain requirements to apply for a scholarship through the Caribbean Education Foundation. You can only apply if you meet all of the following general eligibility requirements:

• • Be of Jamaican Heritage
• • Reside in Jamaica
• • Show evidence of financial need
• • Demonstrate high academic ability
• • Additional restrictions or requirements may apply to 
•    specific CEF-administered scholarship programs.

Frequent Questions

Q: Do I have to type the Essays or Recommendation Letters?

A: No.  The essays and recommendation letters may be handwritten.  

The handwriting must be clear and legible.  All essays and materials are judged the same whether or not they are typed or handwritten.

Q: I don't have any school, community or household leadership experience, can I still apply?

A: Yes.  School, community or household leadership is not required.

Q: I am unable to get a teacher to write a recommendation letter, can I still apply?

A: Yes, you may apply.  A recommendation letter from a teacher is not required. You will be considered for a scholarship if you meet all requirements.
